I had the absolute pleasure of attending Marks and Spencer Christmas advent calendar launch event in their Newcastle branch. The evening took place on the 1st November in their very own beauty department showcasing the stunning products on offer. The event not only gave us a sneak peek at what beauty items were in this year’s calendar but also the opportunity to see the stunning A/W collections and Christmas outfit ideas.
It all began at 5.30pm with a complimentary glass of their very best prosecco and a table of luxury nibbles including minced pies. We all took our seats facing the front of the launch area where a beauty bar had been arranged for the evening. After an introduction to the fashion department (look out for my separate post on this coming soon!) a representative from each of the brands at the beauty departments took to the microphone.
First up was James Johnson, the representative from ColourWow. This fabulous American beauty brand solves the unmet beauty problems women all over the world have been having and over four years ago they brought their WOW brand to the UK. ColorWow is all about today’s hair fashions whether that means bringing Ombre’s, rainbows or just a bit of va-va-voom to their client’s luscious locks. James went through some very easy steps to transform your bedhead into a show-stopper look. The first product recommended was the volumizing spray, Raise the Root. This miracle spray is priced at £16.50 and holds, grips and even lifts flat and colour-treated hair. The polymers form a thickening spring that stays without hairspray. For those who have the same trouble as me (keeping volume in your hair for longer than half an hour) try this absolute winning product, think of it as something between hairspray and dry shampoo.
Pop and Lock gloss treatment was the next product demonstrated. One to two pumps of the magic oil prevent splitting ends. James recommended starting from the underneath of your hair to get a full head coverage. The £18 bottle will create epic shine whilst repairing your hairs texture. The final product up for demonstration was by far the most popular with the audience. The £28.50 Root Cover Up powder is a hair application product that cover greys, dark roots and even used to refresh highlights. With precise application, this ColorWow product gives the appearance of thicker hair being the best solution to thinning hairlines. Even better, Root Cover Up looks natural and is water resistant (yep you can even have a swim with this product in your hair!)
The follow up brand was Filorga, a skin care line which has been partnered with Marks and Spencer for around 6-7 years. The Filorga eye creams have been one of the best sellers in all stores throughout the country. The Time-Filler eye cream works absolute wonders without the cost of potential dangers of surgery. Using a rice grain size amount of the treatment will make eyes look younger and wider from first application. A little pricier than other M&S beauty products but the women at the event couldn’t wait to get their hands on the so called £47 wrinkle defence.
The final product from Filorga I loved the sound of was Pore Express costing £30. It mattifies and blurs pores whilst also suitable for a makeup base. Long lasting benefits such as pore and shine corrections sealed the deal for me.
At the Marks and Spencer beauty advent event we were also joined by This Works which is a British brand keeping well away from unnecessary chemicals. I really loved the look and feel and even smell of the products the expert was showing us on the evening. I got some extra early Christmas presents for myself which included the Deep Sleep Pillow Spray. We were told 98% of users felt more refreshed in the morning whilst 89% believed they fell asleep faster than they normally would without the product. Being a super busy person especially when university deadlines approach and exam stress kicks in I thought this £35 product would be the ideal detox to help me get in that brain rest. Another purchased and demonstrated product by This Works was the In-Transit Skin Defence daily moisturiser. The £32 lightweight feeling product was really smooth and sank really well into my skin without leaving a greasy after affect.
The final brand which I was super excited to see present was Pixi by Petra. This makeup and skincare brand have been on my radar for a while now after hearing so many great things. Not only is all of Pixi products pure and natural it is a great brand for wanting to get that ‘no-makeup’ look. A new definition of fresh faced comes by using Pixi products creating a natural radiance and I was that impressed with their range I had to take some away with me. I went for their new Glow-y Gossamer Duos highlighter. This dual luminous powder lightens and brightens your face in all the right places whilst looking natural and not giving a ‘sweaty’ glow. My other choice which I think most of the beauty bloggers there went for too was the Liquid Fairy Lights in gold. This £15 liquid gel will be perfect for a shiny eyelid this festive season. Because of the launch, the lovely Newcastle Pixi rep gave me a special deal whereby I got a free skin treat when I bought the two other Pixi products. The Hydrating Milky Mist usually costs £18 and it is a deep hydrating product that acts as the ultimate remedy for dry skin. Not only that, but this Milky Mist can be used as a setting spray over the top of makeup for an extra hydrating quench.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Marks and Spencer advent calendar launch event especially because I love seeing what I am getting before purchasing. All of these products are some of the beauty treats that come in this year’s beauty advent. Other brands include Luxe, L’Occitane, Skyn, Percy and Reed, Philip Kingsley, Autograph and many many more. Worth over £280, this year’s calendar is perhaps the best beauty advent I have purchased especially getting it for the price of £35. Don’t worry, you too can take advantage of this absolute bargain when you spend over £35 at M&S.
At the end of the presentation Marks and Spencer’s beauty team handed each of the guests a little goodie bag. I was so shocked to see the volume and extent of the samples in the bag, from eye gels to hair elasticizor, overnight wrinkle reducers to Pixi peppermint lip gloss and Monotheme Acqua Marina perfume. I honestly can’t express how much I loved the event, meeting great people, learning some of the best beauty tips and grabbing myself some amazing goodies. I would recommend anyone and everyone to head down to the Newcastle M&S beauty department where the guys and gals over there will have you covered in no time.
