If you can remember back to the final bank holiday of the year (extremely sad I know) you might recall that the weather on the Sunday wasn’t so great. With a mixture of sunny spells then crazy downpours of rain, the day was quite literally a washout.
Despite the forecast we had expected we headed to Amble to see the lovely Harbour Village. A couple of years ago now the pier of Amble had been transformed into little wooden pods where locals can share their produce. The 15 relatively small retail pods bring a variety of produce on offer. From fashion and beauty, to cakes and cheese, even the seafood catch of the day can be bought.
The 2015 government funding which was granted for the redevelopment of Amble really has light up this coastal town and brought a community closer together. I had first visited when the pods opened and when I returned over the bank holiday I was delighted to see all 15 of them open for business and flourishing in their brands. One of the pods which really stood out for me was the Niche. This cute little hut sold seaside gifts and ornaments. I thought the art work which was framed around the shop was gorgeous and showcasing some of Northumberland’s best know towns.
Lady Milly is the name of the fashion retailer selling luxury bags and purses. For those on a budget or those spending the cash, Lady Milly’s has it all. Unique and stylish jewellery and gifts were presented all around beautifully showing off the fashionable talent. Urban Pooch caught my eye next. With recently getting a puppy I am drawn to all puppy gift shops looking for a new toy or treat. This Amble pod was something else! From puppy beer and ice-cream to the most delicate and artistic puppy cakes I got excited. How adorable are these little cupcakes for your pooch? I had to get them and my little puppy seemed to devourer them off quickly.
This coastal town around 50 minutes north of Newcastle is beyond flourishing in the recent developments. With tourists travelling from around the country, Amble really has raised the bar for seaside destinations. If you look on any social media for the Harbour Village, possibly the most Instagramable pod of them all is ‘K’s Little Kakery’. This boutique cake pod wins first place in my eyes for the most stylish design. Attracting people with her amazing cakes, crepes and luxurious hot chocolates, the flavours are fantastically thought out displaying the likes of Eton mess cake and Jammie Dodger blondies. Delicious!
To be honest I haven’t looked around Amble itself in a long long time. I always get so distracted by the harbour front and now with these stunning retail pods it is even harder to get around the streets. My final Bank Holiday of the year was perfect. Although I got unbelievably soaked in the down pour of rain, I still had a big smile on my face. The most unique little gifts were purchased including some coastal ornaments, four amazing cupcakes and of course some puppy treats. If you happen to be around the Northumberland area or even thinking of planning a trip up to our stunning North East, then I couldn’t recommend visiting Amble Harbour Village enough!
